Continental Teves
The situation
Continental Teves make brake calipers for the automotive industry. They supply most of the big names in the car industry including Ford, Volvo, BMW, Vauxhall, Toyota, Mercedes, Volkswagen and many others.
The plant is a major local employer with around 600 staff and is part of Continental AG, based in Germany.
Project description
- Carry out activities to improve Line balancing and the redesign of key manufacturing Cells.
Problem
- There is too much Non-Value added activity in the current system, leading to long lead times and inefficient production.
Our actions
The Cells were analysed using Value Stream Mapping and Paper Kaizen techniques. All non-value added activities were eliminated, the work elements balanced between operators and the cell redesigned based on the new Lead Times The results
