Overview:

Ever had that feeling when you stare at a blank screen and think where do I start, once you get started 10 minutes later you stare hopelessly at your writing so far realising that you have completely lost track of what you wanted to say? Let alone once you have passed it on to others as a permanent record, you then wish you could have it back to amend! This course focuses on enabling you to quickly and effectively compose written communication which is credible and fit for purpose.

  • Produce effective written communication which responds effectively to the need
  • Use best practice when writing letters, memos, reports and e-mails
  • Use an appropriate tone and level of business language in specific situations
  • Make appropriate use of statistical/visual materials and appendices in reports

  • Value of the written word and the importance of objectves of the reader(s)
  • Letters, memos, reports, emails or other forms of written communication in use within the organisation
  • Planning for writing, including use of available information and the needs of the intended reader
  • Tone, language, level of formality
  • Image, structure, layout conventions including 'house styles'
