freshbaked MD to play in charity cricket match

freshbaked’s MD will be swapping his suit for cricket whites later this month when he takes part in a charity cricket match in Newport.

Richard Matthews will be playing alongside 11 other businessmen in the 40/40 game when they battle it out at Ponthir Cricket Club on the 20th July against a star-studded team of Welsh rugby players.

Former Welsh rugby coach, Mike Ruddock will lead the team of players, including Welsh rugby captain Ryan Jones, in the annual game organised by Hope Cymru, which has previously raised over £20,000 for a number of Welsh charities, including Ty Hafan and Barnado’s Cymru.

Now in its fifth year, the game will this year raise money for Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, Latch.

Says Jim Daniels, chairman of Hope Cymru: “Our annual cricket match has proved to be a huge success. Not only is it a great opportunity to meet some of Wales’ rugby heroes, but it is a fantastic day out for all the family and a perfect chance to raise some much needed funds for a really worthwhile Welsh charity. We hope that everyone will join us this year for what promises to be a great day.”

Last year, over 500 people turned up to support the event when Colin Charvis’ celebrity team beat the Gwent business team by 20 runs.

Richard says: “We’re really looking forward to the day. Last year the celebrity team narrowly beat the business team, but this year we’ve got some strong players and we’re feeling really confident.”

As well as the 40/40 match, this year’s event will also feature a barbeque, face painting, bouncy castles, hog roast, candy floss machine and the chance to meet and get autographs from rugby stars including Kevin Morgan, Ian Gough, Rhys Thomas and Ashley Smith.

In addition, freshbaked PR – the newest division of the freshbaked Group – will be serving ice creams from their charity van for a small donation to Latch.

Entry is £5 for adults and free for children under 12. Those interested in coming along should turn up early on the day. For any businesses that would like to take part, there are still a few places available for sponsorship on the businessmen’s XI. To take a place in the team and raise funds for Latch please call Paul Chard 07977 931167.
