Redundant invited for jobs master class day
Those that have been made redundant within the last six months or are currently under redundancy notice are invited to attend a free employment master class day where there will be the opportunity to view over 200 live jobs.
Run by Boomerang, a service established by training expert’s freshbaked to equip people with the skills necessary to get back into the jobs market, the employment master classes will be run over three sessions on Monday 11th May at freshbaked’s HQ in Cardiff. Covering topics including creating a CV with a difference, be the best interviewee, understanding the employer, and, how to write the perfect covering letter, there will also be a live jobs board giving people the opportunity to view a wide selection of jobs on the day.
Utilising the expertise and networks of the training and development divisions within the freshbaked Group, Boomerang has got off to a flying start since it was launched at the beginning of the year. Providing training and professional qualifications, whether it is in management, personal development, business excellence or information technology, the programme has helped over 50 candidates return to employment.
One such candidate that Boomerang has helped is Jane John, from Cardiff who was made redundant from women’s retailer Principles after working there as store manager for a number of years.
After receiving CV advice and enrolling on an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) qualification and ECDL computer course, Jane found employment with food chain Iceland within six weeks.
She said: “Having worked at Principles for a number of years, I was absolutely devastated when I got made redundant and thought it was going to be months before I found new employment. However soon after I enrolled on the courses at freshbaked and got CV advice I was taken on by Iceland. They were impressed with the initiative I had taken by embarking on training and recognized that the ILM course would help me when I came to lead the team at Iceland.”
Another candidate, Stephen Roberts, who found employment after receiving CV advice from experts on the Boomerang scheme, said: “I would like to thank the staff at Boomerang for helping me find a job after four months of getting nowhere fast. Their help with my CV enabled me to get an interview almost immediately. I submitted it at 11am, and I received a phone call only two hours later asking me to go for an interview. And 24 hours later they phoned to say I was successful in getting the post.”
Project manager of Boomerang Aimee Bateman, said: “With unemployment figures rising in the UK, there are thousands of Welsh workers faced with the challenge of finding a new job. We have found that the main priority for those that have been made redundant is to maximise their chances of getting back to work as soon as possible and consequently we are putting on an employment master class day to provide these people with the essential skills, support, networks and opportunities needed to get back on the career ladder.
“Having worked with countless organisations over the years, we know from experience the things employers are looking for and as such we’ve developed a suite of workshops designed to equip those recently made redundant with the necessary skills to get back into employment quickly.
“Research shows that people who are laid off in this country typically take 20 weeks to find a new job, but we are finding that those who take the proactive steps of undertaking training are being placed much quicker.”
Master classes are being put on between 10am – 12pm, 1pm – 3pm and 4pm – 6pm. To book a place contact 02920 491491.
