Support grows for Grav campaign
Staff at freshbaked business service group are continuing to pledge their full support for the 'Grow a Grav'campaign which was launched earlier this month.
Launched by The Welsh Rugby Players’ Association (WRPA) in association with the Ray Gravell and Friends Charitable Trust, the Grow a Grav campaign is encouraging men across Wales to grow a beard during the month of November in homage to one of the country’s greatest rugby legends, Ray Gravell.
Ray Gravell passed away in October 2007, aged 56. A former Llanelli, Wales and British Lions rugby player, Grav played during the most successful period in Welsh rugby's history, when he became known for his trademark beard and his powerful charges from midfield. His fame became even greater after he retired from playing in 1985 and embarked on an acting and broadcasting career which made him one of the best known faces and voices in the country.
With an array of Welsh rugby stars including Blues star Jamie Roberts, Newport Gwent Dragons stalwart Luke Charteris and Scarlet’s back Andrew Fenby backing the campaign, other famous welsh stars who have also pledged their support include Only Men Aloud, TV personality Gethin Jones and athlete Jamie Baulch.
On supporting Grow a Grav, CEO of freshbaked business services group, Richard Matthews said: “We are delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile campaign. All the staff are getting involved and everyone wants to raise as much money as possible for this important cause.”
President of the WRPA, former Wales and Cardiff Blues player, Rhys Williams said: “Since launching this campaign we have received overwhelming support not just from rugby fans and players themselves but also from Welsh businesses.
“It is great to see so much support for this campaign, ultimately we want to raise as much money as possible so we can not only help support rugby players in need, for example those who have been forced to retire through injury, but also help continue to support charities that were close to Ray’s heart.”
In order to take part in Grow a Grav, the WRPA is asking people to make a £5 donation to the campaign via the WRPA’s website www.wrpa.co.uk. Cash/cheque donations can be made to Grow a Grav, c/o The Welsh Rugby Players Association, 3 Assembly Square, Britannia Quay, Cardiff Bay, CF10 4PL.
