Accountants put best feet forward for charity

Three members of staff from leading accountancy firm ktsowensthomas are preparing to take part in this year's Cancer Care Cymru Canter.

Trainee accountants Giles McNamara, 26, and Matthew Wood, 24, will run the 5k race alongside managing director of the Cardiff-based firm David Owens, 48, to raise money for the Welsh cancer charity.

Hoping to raise plenty of money for the organisation, which has been developed specifically to provide information, support and care for people in Wales whose lives are affected by cancer, the trio will dress up as fictional superheroes Batman, Robin and Alfred the Butler, to run the course around Bute Park on Sunday 5th April 2009.

On the challenge ahead, Giles says: “I am always up for a challenge and being a keen runner I decided that taking part in the race would not only raise money for an important cause, but also by making fools of ourselves by donning fancy dress we hope to raise even more money for charity.”

Having chosen Cancer Care Cymru as its nominated charity last year, ktsowensthomas has raised over £1,000 to date. David Owens says: “Cancer Care Cymru provides fantastic emotional and practical support for cancer patients throughout diagnosis and treatment and we’re delighted to continue to support their invaluable work this year.”

The charity’s Chief Executive Officer Debbie Whiteley says: “Wales has the highest cancer rates in the UK so we have a big job to do. The response to our fun run has been tremendous, and we are grateful to the likes of ktsowensthomas for helping to raise funds that we can spend for the benefit of Welsh cancer patients.”
