60 jobs created at new hotel

Cardiff's newest hotel is offering a glimmer of light amid the jobs gloom as it looks to check in a 60-strong workforce.

The first job of Radisson Blu’s general manager Simone Sander will be to recruit staff for every area of the four-star operation, which is located directly opposite the new St David’s 2 shopping development in the heart of the city centre.

From front of house, management and housekeeping staff, to food and beverage staff to manage Radisson Blu’s feature restaurant and bar – Filini, and staff to manage the hotel’s health and leisure club, the recruitment process is already well underway ahead of the hotel’s opening in June.

With a prime location, the new hotel, which is the first Radisson Blu in Wales, is set to be the biggest and tallest hotel in the capital with 21-storeys and 215 guest rooms and meetings and events facilities to cater for over 300 people.

Having been employed by Radisson Blu operator’s The Rezidor Hotel Group for over ten years, new GM Sander, has a thorough knowledge of what the company looks for in new staff.

She says: "It's an exciting opportunity and in the current climate it is great to be actively recruiting. I am looking forward to building a great team and establishing Radisson Blu as one of the key players in the Cardiff hotel scene."

As part of its focus on total guest satisfaction, Radisson Blu offers one of the hospitality industry’s most dynamic guest relations training programmes called “Yes I can!” and all staff appointed to work at the new hotel will go through this internal training programme in the lead up to the opening.

Continues Sander: “The “Yes I can!” service culture that Rezidor has built up over the past 14 years is an integral part of its operation and all new staff will take part in training courses to familiarize themselves with this philosophy. Rather than providing a purely reactive service to our guests, we encourage our staff to take initiative, anticipate guest needs and in hand increase guest satisfaction, and through extensive staff training prior to opening we can guarantee a top quality experience and high level service to our customers.”
