Waste management division doubles turnover to defy downturn

Indigo Environmental, the environmental and waste management division of the Indigo Group has defied the current economic downturn and doubled its turnover in its first six months of operating.

Since acquiring the environmental and waste management division from industrial service provider JVS in November 2008, Indigo Environmental has doubled its customer base and expanded its geographical service area to include Cardiff, Swansea and Newport.

The acquisition which was spearheaded by Jonathan Bennett, CEO of the wider Indigo Group, has led the company to achieve considerable growth, currently billing in excess of £2 million per annum, with forecasts for additional business to reach £2.5 million by the end of 2009.

Said Jonathan Bennett: “When we acquired the waste management division in 2008, the company was turning over £1 million a year and servicing around 2000 customers a month. With the implementation of a strategic growth plan we have doubled this figure since and now service around 4,000 customers per month, with this figure set to grow the by the end of 2009.”

The division which is led by Terry Osmond and Nigel Coombs, two former board members of Biffa Waste Ltd, specialises in recycling and non hazardous waste management. Key clients of the Bridgend-based company include Tesco, Marks & Spencers and fashion house Laura Ashley.

Operations director of Indigo Environmental, Nigel Coombs said: “The simple, cost effective service that we provide our clients with has enabled us to rapidly expand the business and defy the current economic downturn. This has been achievable through the expansion of our services across south Wales and the growth of the company’s existing client base.”

As part of the company’s three year business plan, Indigo Environmental will aim to turnover in excess of £10 million by 2011.

This will be achieved through additional acquisitions which will see the company expand their service offerings to include additional recycling services, confidential waste disposal and skip services.

Indigo Environmental is part of the wider Indigo Washroom Solutions Group which is recognised as the fastest growing independent washroom provider within the UK.
