Veterinary surgery set to sponsor Spytty

Leading veterinary surgeons, Budget Vets, has been announced as this year`s official sponsors of Newport County`s mascot Spytty the Dog.

The Malpas Road-based surgery will sponsor the club’s resident canine fan for the 2009/10 football season. A firm favourite with fans, Spytty the club’s iconic mascot is renowned for both rallying the faithful Newport County supporters, as well as his comic touchline antics. Spytty has also shown his own sporting prowess, having come second in the ‘Mascots Grand National’ when it was held at Chepstow Racecourse.

On becoming this season’s official sponsors of Spytty, Peter Heathcote, clinic director of Budget Vets said: “As the new season gets underway we felt it was important to give something back to the local community. Spytty is much more than a regular match day entertainer, he is also a keen fundraiser within the community and well known both on and off the pitch for his charity work.

“We are thrilled to be involved in this year’s football season. We have already had Spytty into the surgery for a check up and fans will be pleased to know that we have given him a clean bill of health ahead of the new season. We will be ensuring that Spytty gets regular checkups throughout the season so that he keeps in peak condition and are looking forward to cheering on Newport County and Spytty from the sidelines!”
