Maesteg businessman appointed to Garnwen Trust
The Garnwen Trust, a charity set up in memory of two Welsh victims of the Phuket air disaster, has appointed a new trustee to their board.
Managing Partner of Midas People Management, Simon Goldsworthy, (46), of Maesteg, joins the board with over 25 years experience in the Welsh business community having been a HR director at Hitachi, Grundig and Thomson before setting up his own HR consultancy earlier this year.
The Garnwen Trust is a charity set up by Richard and Margaret Collins of Maesteg in memory of their son, Alex, and his girlfriend Bethan Jones who were victims of the Phuket air disaster on September 16, 2007.
Since the tragedy, the Garnwen Trust has already raised more than £40,000, some of which has been donated to Headway, Bridgend, the Burns Unit at Morriston Hospital and orphans of the tsunami.
Simon Goldsworthy joins eight other trustees, all committed to raising funds to construct and maintain a multi-purpose disabled access log cabin at Afan Argoed forest park which will offer respite care and a teaching facility, concentrating on eco-friendly issues.
Commenting on the appointment, Simon Goldsworthy commented: “I am very honoured to have been offered a place on this board. The Garnwen Trust is an extremely worthwhile cause. I am really looking forward to getting involved as much as possible, and hopefully putting my skills, experience and contact book to good use, in order to make a very effective contribution”
Richard Collins added: “We are very pleased to welcome Simon onto the board. The work we do is very important but getting the message out there and raising funds can be difficult in this economic climate. Simon’s experience in Welsh business, along with the experience of his fellow trustees will be invaluable to us as we work to raise our profile throughout Wales".
