UES launch six month countdown campaign
UES, one of Wales' leading utility and environmental management consultancies, has launched a six month countdown campaign, to raise the awareness of the Carbon Reduction Commitment.
The six month campaign, will aim to raise awareness of the Carbon Reduction Commitment energy efficiency scheme (CRC) amongst high energy users and organisations across Wales, ahead of its introduction in April 2010.
The CRC energy efficiency scheme, a mandatory carbon emissions trading scheme for the UK, applies to businesses with an overall annual energy bill of around £500,000 and will look to drive emissions reductions across the country.
From 2010, fines will be imposed on businesses and organisations failing to register and disclose the relevant information. The CRC initiative will use economic incentives and market forces to drive overall carbon emission reductions. The Government will also publish a league table ranking the performance of all organisations covered by the CRC.
Throughout the campaign, UES will be urging welsh businesses to understand whether they fall into the CRC scheme and to fully understand the implications of the commitment, how it will affect their business and what needs to be done in order to comply with the requirements.
As the campaign progresses, UES will deliver further information to businesses to help them gear up for the April deadline. The campaign will seek to offer support and advice to businesses and organisations across Wales and along the M4 corridor in order to place businesses at the top of the CRC league table, help deter fines and position them as leaders in the Carbon reduction programme.
The campaign will begin with a joint morning seminar in conjunction with the South Wales Chamber of Commerce at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, on the 12th November 2009. Aimed at key decision makers in companies with an annual energy bill of over £500,000, the free event will educate attendees on the implications of CRC for their organisations, and the actions they can take to be ready for the impending new legislation.
Commenting on the six month campaign, Andrew Diplock, Commercial Director of UES said: “We are pleased to be launching the six month campaign to raise awareness of the commitment. We have extensive knowledge of helping our clients manage energy consumption and in particular of assisting clients to address the Carbon Reduction Commitment. Businesses need to get serious about CO2, and learn from each other because if they don’t take urgent action they will not only be faced with fines and damage to their reputations, but the carbon consumption will continue to add to the devastating effects of climate change.”
