Recruitment network spots a 'gap' in the south Wales market

One of the UK's largest independent recruitment networks has opened up in south Wales for the first time in its 12 year history.

Founded in north Wales by Gary Dewhurst, gap personnel has opened a new branch on Cathedral Road, Cardiff, adding to the company’s impressive network of over 40 outlets across the UK.

Since establishing its roots in Wrexham in 1997, gap personnel has quickly grown into a £50 million turnover company with over 200 staff.

The Cardiff branch has been added to strengthen the company’s operation in the south west of the UK working with established branches in Chippenham, Wiltshire and a new acquisition in Bristol city centre.

The new Cardiff branch will offer industrial and technical recruitment solutions for temporary and permanent roles, which gap personnel has built up its heritage on, and will be lead by regional director of the south West, Rachel Shipton.

Rachel Shipton, regional director at gap personnel, said: “We are delighted to open up our first branch in south Wales. We are very proud of our Welsh roots and have a strong heritage in north Wales so opening up in the south, particularly Cardiff, was a natural step for us. We are on a mission to soften the blow of the current economic crisis for local people in south Wales by targeting candidates who have recently been made redundant, therefore, in the first instance we are going to specifically target companies who are making portions of their workforce redundant.”

During the last two years, gap personnel has been on an aggressive plan of expansion and growth, acquiring agencies across the UK and the move into south Wales marks one of the most significant additions for the company whose aim is to provide customers with industry leading local expertise with nationwide capabilities and to turnover £100 million by the end of 2012.

Managing director of gap personnel Gary Dewhurst, said: “Our expansion plans have been gathering pace in recent months. There are has been a particular focus on strengthening our regional offering through acquisitions as we are keen to expand our operations across the country and increase our service offering to clients. Strengthening our foundations in the south West through the establishment of a Cardiff branch means we are making significant steps to achieve this.”
