Jewellery designer creates charm bracelets for Kili climb

A jewellery designer who is climbing the highest mountain in Africa for two local charities has created a special range of charm bracelets to raise money for the cause.

Cardiff-based Karen Dell’Armi has designed and created two silver charm bracelets to help with a fundraising bid to raise £100,000 for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice and Breast Cancer Care Cymru.

Karen is part of ‘Welsh Women Walking’, a group of 15 Women from Wales, set to climb 20,000 feet up Mount Kilimanjaro in January 2010 as part of a nine day expedition.

The hand crafted silver bracelets feature charms symbolic of the charities supported by the climb. The pink ribbon, symbolic of Breast Cancer Care Cymru and the butterfly of Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice are included on each bracelet, as well as a series of charms to represent the expedition undertaken by Karen and her fellow climbers.

This is the first time that Karen has designed a charity range, since setting up her business ‘Karen Dell’Armi Contemporary Jewellery’ just over two years ago. She said: “It was important for me to design a range in support of our two chosen charities for this climb as they both help to better the lives of so many in our local Welsh community. 

“Breast Cancer Care Cymru is a charity which is very close to my heart ever since a close friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and has been faced with battling the illness ever since. My efforts in taking part in the climb, as well as in designing the range for the charity, are a tribute to how well she has coped and how thankful we are for the support of an extremely deserving charity.”
