Veterinary surgery invests in Quad to help sick animals.

A leading veterinary surgery in south Wales has invested in a top of the range Quad Bike to attend to sick animals as forecasters predict the return of the cold snap later this week.

Budget Vets based on Aberrhondda Road in Porth purchased the Quad after receiving a number of distressed phone calls last week from pet owners whose animals were in need of vital medication, but were unable to get to the surgery due to the icy weather conditions.

Said clinic director, Peter Heathcote: “Due to the adverse weather conditions we have experienced recently, we have received a large number of calls from worried pet owners seeking medical advice for their pets who have received injuries whilst out in the freezing conditions.

“The recent spell of cold weather has also left a number of our customers unable to attend appointments and checkups, leaving some animals without vital medication and veterinary care for a number of days.”

The Quad, which can carry a passenger and medical supplies, is legal to drive both on and off road, enabling the Budget Vets team to attend to sick animals in even the remotest of areas of south Wales. The Quad will also be used to keep all three of the Budget Vets surgeries open and manned in snowy conditions ensuring pet owners still have access to veterinary care.

This new vehicle will enable us to reach customers as far as Newport, Abertillery and the surrounding valleys in poor conditions, allowing us to continue providing high end veterinary care and delivering much needed medical supplies.”
