Office Junior to Associate at Watkins and Gunn
Legal executive, Lynette Vaughan, of Watkins and Gunn Solicitors has been promoted to associate, ten years after joining the firm as an office junior.
Watkins & Gunn Solicitors, which has offices in Newport and Pontypool, promoted Lynette,31, in recognition of her hard work and dedication over the last decade.
Starting out as an office junior in 1998, Lynette commenced an Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) course while working initially as a secretary and then a paralegal. Lynette qualified as a member of the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) in 2002 and went on to become a Fellow of the Institute.
Lynette, who specialises in personal injury work, was also judged second best legal executive in the UK at the ILEX Awards in 2005, and has been accredited as a senior litigator by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).
On her promotion, Lynette said: “I’m thrilled to have been made an Associate of the firm and want to thank the partners for all their support over the past ten years. I’m proud to be a part of an award winning firm and look forward to many more years of continued success.”
Lynette now has her sights set on becoming a partner after the Legal Services Act opened up the legal profession to allow legal executives to become owners of law firms.
She continued: “ The new change in the way Law firms may be structured is a very positive step as it allows legal executives to be recognised for their importance and to be given equal standing in the legal workplace. It has really spurred me on to further progress my career.”
Managing partner of the firm, Clive Thomas, said: “Lynette has worked extremely hard and it’s been wonderful to see how she has developed and taken full advantage of all of the opportunities that she has been given. Lynette thoroughly deserves all of her success. She has shown amazing loyalty and commitment to the firm which has been recognised through her promotion to associate.
“The Legal Services Act has removed the barriers to advancement for high-quality legal executives like Lynette. It is entirely appropriate that we can now reward Lynette’s drive and ambition by providing her with an excellent career path within the firm. She is wonderful example to others and I’m sure that she will quickly adapt to her new role and be pushing for Partnership in the not too distant future.”
