Emrys Haugen, general manager of Cardiff-based sports specialist company SportStars, has been named a finalist in the 2009 Leading Wales Awards.
Emrys ,24, from Llandovery is one of the three finalists in the Young Leader Category sponsored by Chartered Management Institute.
The Leading Wales Awards recognise great leadership at all levels across the public, private and voluntary sectors in Wales, and celebrate individuals whose leadership skills have made a strong impact and resulted in positive change within their organisations.
Emrys joined the company as a sports specialist in 2005 and was promoted to general manager in 2007, helping to grow the business from five contracts in year one to over 100 contracts in 2009.
On being shortlisted Emrys said: “I am delighted to have been named as a finalist. When I took on the role as general manger my aim was to create a motivated and happy workforce that would enable our team to progress in their careers. I am thrilled to be named on the shortlist however, I would like to recognise the hard work of the talented team of sport specialists we employ, all of whom have played a pivotal role in making SportStars a success.”
“Wales has outstanding leaders in all walks of life and these awards celebrate the people who, thanks to their superb leadership skills, have made a real difference in their organisation,” said Barbara Chidgey, chairman for the Leading Wales Awards, the consortium of public, private and voluntary sector organisations that developed and organise the awards.
“As always, the calibre of entries has been extremely high with nominations put forward from right across Wales. Our finalists have all made an impact with their leadership and we are delighted to be able to recognise that with these awards.”
