The Travel Editor (www.thetraveleditor.com) review Jolyon's Boutique Hotel

This boutique hotel is most definitely a home away from home!

Owned and run by Jolyon Joseph, it boasts a lot of character for such a small hideaway and, since it opened just five years ago, it seems to have cut itself a niche and broken away from some of the larger hotel chains that tend to populate the city.

This hotel is located just outside the bustling city centre in Cardiff Bay – so it’s definitely a little quieter - but is close enough to take leisurely stroll to the bars and restaurants.

The hotel features six individually designed elegant bedrooms taking inspiration from a single item of furniture in each room.  With excellent attention to detail, gems such as unique Moroccan lighting and an original captain’s mirror (complete with natural sea salt), can be found in the different rooms.

With just six bedrooms the staff and Jolyon herself are, as expected, extremely attentive to their guests and genuinely nothing seems too much trouble for them.

Jolyons also has its own restaurant/bar called Bar 'Cwtch', which translates as a hide-away hole or cuddle. Like the attached hotel, Bar Cwtch is bespoke and unique, full of antique features and quirky objects, where even the flowerpots have odd little features. As well as offering guests of the hotel hearty local fare, the bar is open to the general public, who can pop in for a glass of red wine and a stone-baked pizza or a coffee beside the wood-burning fire.

In the evening, the bar turns into a livelier affair with guest bands, quiz evenings, and open mic nights.
