Young people encouraged to get inspired

A Vale-based scheme is hosting a special event in Cowbridge to mark its first anniversary of helping young people become successful business entrepreneurs.

The Inspiring the Vale Bursaries scheme is hosting an event at Bar 44 on Thursday 22 April 2010, to offer young people a chance to learn more about the funding available to help set up in business.

The event will include talks from a number of key business entrepreneurs including star of Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire and Vale business man Paul Ragan and James Emery, managing director of Barry-based The COS Group, who will speak on successfully running and managing a business.

Run by Creative Rural Communities, a regeneration and economic development initiative led by the Vale of Glamorgan Council in partnership with various public, private and voluntary sector organisations, the project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. The scheme, established in 2009, aims to give individual or group applicants up to the age of 30, who either currently live in the rural Vale or have previously lived there in the past for five years, the opportunity to set up their own business with a grant of up to £3,000.

Nia Hollins, rural regeneration officer at Creative Rural Communities said: “We are hosting this event to not only celebrate the first anniversary of the scheme but also continue to raise awareness of opportunities that are available out there to young people looking to set up on their own. Since launching the scheme 12 months ago we have helped several young entrepreneurs fulfil their dreams of setting up their own business.

“To date there has been very little help and support for budding young businessmen and women in the Vale of Glamorgan. However, this scheme encourages people to turn their business ideas into reality.  The funding will give budding entrepreneurs the chance to run their own business either on a full-time or part time basis or in some instances even in their spare time. The funding can also be used for a number of purposes including research, marketing, equipment and it can even be used towards rent on a business premises.

“If we are to keep employment and investment opportunities high in the Vale of Glamorgan, new businesses are essential to ensure we keep the local economy thriving. We only have a year left of this funding so are urging people in the area to take full advantage and this event is a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and learn more about the scheme and it how it can benefit them.”
