Driver training company celebrates record year with significant contract win

A Barry-based driver training company has marked its end of financial year with record turnover and a significant contract win.

Professional Drivers Services (PDS) has surpassed the one million pound turnover mark for the first time in its eight year history and secured a contract with the South Wales Police to deliver the National Driver Offender Re-training Scheme.

PDS was awarded the contract, which will be spread over the next three years, following a competitive tender against a number of the UK’s other leading driver training companies.

Working alongside South Wales Police, which is responsible for policing a large geographic area across South Wales, PDS will deliver the National Driver Offender Re-training Scheme to members of the public who have committed a driving offence, in a bid to help enhance their driving skills following a police intervention.

Director of PDS, Kath Bevan, said: “To win another major contract with the South Wales Police Authority is fantastic news for PDS. This contract marks the end of a very successful financial year for PDS. Since launching, eight years ago, the company has continued to go from strength to strength. Reaching the one million pound turnover mark is a testament to, not only the hard work of our staff but, the level of service we offer the clients we work with, not only in south Wales but right across the UK.

“Having worked closely with other police forces around the UK, we have a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with members of the public who may otherwise could have been convicted of driving offences.  In addition to this, we also understand the importance of delivering a high quality, confidential service, ensuring we meet the requirements and needs of each individual client.”

Established in 2002, by Kath Bevan and Stephen Davies, PDS is dedicated to improving road safety and specialises in public and private sector fleet driver training, speed awareness, minibus training and National Driver Offender Retraining Schemes (NDORS). The company is also IS0:9001 accredited and is one of only 18 Driving Standards Agency (DSA) approved National Fleet Diploma Training Organisations.

On awarding the contract, Wayne Tucker, Road Safety Manager of South Wales Police Authority said: “We awarded the contract to PDS after the company impressed us with their excellent driver training credentials, and overall experience and understanding of the driver training industry. Safety on our roads is paramount in South Wales and PDS has an excellent reputation for providing a reliable and flexible service ensuring that they meet the needs of their clients.

“We are delighted to be working with them again and look forward to further cementing our relationship over the next three years.”
