Cardiff designer goes international

Wales-based designer and silversmith Karen Dell'Armi will this year consolidate plans to expanded her contemporary jewellery business overseas.

Dell’Armi, 40, who established Karen Dell’Armi Contemporary Jewellery in 2007, has announced that she is to expand the business across the UK and into Europe, following a successful two years of growing the business in Wales.

Having featured in a host of Welsh galleries, Dell’Armi is now one of only 15 British designers to have been selected by UK jewellery exhibition organisers ‘Handmade in Britain’ to represent the UK at its first ever ‘Fusion Exhibition’ in Istanbul.

The exhibition, which will take place in May of this year, will showcase the work of a range of designers and highlights emerging talent. Held in the Bir Nokta Gallery, this is the first ever exhibition to be hosted by the organisation in Istanbul, termed ‘The European Capital of Culture 2010’.

The selection to join the exhibition comes as Dell’Armi celebrates a successful start to 2010, forging links with a number of high profile UK-based galleries, and exhibiting overseas for the first time in New Delhi.

2010 will also see the designer’s ‘Serenity’ Range feature in an additional 11 galleries from the north of Britain in the Shetland Isles, down to the south in Truro, Cornwall.

Commenting on the business’s expansion, Dell’Armi said: “2010 has been such a fantastic year for me so far. My work has been so well received across Wales and I am extremely thankful for this. Now to have been selected to exhibit internationally is a great privilege and I hope to strengthen my presence across Europe over the next couple of years.”

Having recently returned from a charity climb to Mount Kilimanjaro as part of the ‘Welsh Women Walking’ group, Dell’Armi hopes to launch her new range inspired by the trip, later in 2010.
