Choir sings praises of new vice chair
Newport Philharmonic Choir has a new vice chair following the appointment of Emma Williams to the role.
Emma Williams from Beechwood, Newport takes on the role as vice chair, having sat on the choir’s committee team for the last two years and been a member of the choir since 2004.
Having joined the choir over six years ago after taking part in the Eisteddfod choir which was formed for the Newport Eisteddfod in 2004, Emma will be responsible for the recruiting new members and will continue to strengthen and build upon the choir’s relationship with the local community and Welsh businesses.
On her appointment, Emma, who is Practice Manager at Independent Financial Adviser firm, Alchemy Wealth Management said: “I am extremely honoured to have been elected as vice chair of Newport Philharmonic Choir. Having been involved with the choir for a number of years I am looking forward to using my new role to take the choir forward into the next decade whilst continuing to uphold the traditions and principles of the choir.”
Set up 23 years ago, the Newport Philharmonic Choir was originally formed for the National Eisteddfod which came to Newport in 1988. With over 80 members, the choir has performed across the UK and Germany and has developed a wide repertoire of musical styles. Having performed for local charities and at several civic functions the choir has also sung in many languages including Welsh, Latin and German.
On Emma’s appointment, Newport Philharmonic Choir chairman, John Anthony said: "Emma is a valued member of the choir and we are delighted to welcome her on board as vice chair. Without a doubt Emma’s enthusiasm and passion for music will be fundamental as preparations get underway for our autumn concert.”
Continued Emma: “The choir is now into its 23rd year, with many of the founding members still singing over two decades later. It is a privilege to be part of such a talented choir and I look forward to many prosperous years ahead.”
