Berry Smith invests in a fresh bunch of recruits

Law firm Berry Smith has announced the qualification of five new solicitors.

The newly-qualified solicitors, Chris Coughlan, Selena Evans, Jean Norton, Jennifer Pinder and Kate Woosnam, will each be working in one of four specialist teams, within the Berry Smith’s Transaction and Business Services Department.

Swansea University graduates, Miss Woosnam, 26, and Miss Norton, 28, and Glamorgan University graduate Miss Evans, 26, will join the firm’s Insurance Employment team. Set to work from Berry Smith’s Cardiff and London based offices, the trio will act on behalf of numerous national insurance companies, providing both respondent and applicant work.

Joining the firm’s Commercial Employment and HR team, Mrs Pinder, 26 from Newport, will be working alongside Berry Smith’s Commercial and Corporate Finance Divisions to advise clients on employment matters and corporate governance and to provide assistance in HR matters for its larger commercial clients.

Mr Coughlan, 29, originally from Dublin joins Berry Smith following completion of a Masters Degree at Cardiff University. He will work within the Commercial and Intellectual Property team and act on behalf of the firm’s corporate client base.

On his appointment, Mr Coughlan said: “Qualification into this particular team will give me the opportunity to advise several national and international companies, an exciting prospect. The Commercial and Intellectual Property team is accredited by the British Franchise Association and acts on behalf of a number of household names. As a result I will be working alongside some of the most experienced professionals in the field; this is an opportunity that I am extremely thankful for”.

Berry Smith’s Transaction and Business Services Department is led by partners Andrew Bound, Nigel Greenaway and Stephen Moore, who will individually provide substantial support to the newly qualified solicitors in their specialist legal areas.

Partner Nigel Greenaway said: “Each of the specialist teams within the department is experiencing substantial growth. Moving from a department of just two individuals, to now forty employees and partners, the Transaction and Business Services division has demonstrated durability throughout even the toughest economic climate.

“The recruitment of five new solicitors demonstrates the firm’s intention to continue to expand and to develop, giving clients access to a growing team of individuals who are highly experienced in a wide range of legal services”.
