Polo match raises much needed funds for Welsh charity

A charity polo match held in Cardiff Castle last month has raised over £5,000 for welsh charity, the Noah's Ark Appeal.

Organised by sponsorship and events company, Fusion, in partnership with Cardiff-based charity Noah’s Ark Appeal, ‘Polo in the Castle’ attracted two thousand hospitality guests and spectators from across Wales and the UK who enjoyed three fast and furious matches between four teams including Williams Lea, freshbaked Business Services Group, Crouch Jewllers and Juboraj.

With 100 per cent of the profits made on ticket sales going to the Noah’s Ark Appeal, ‘Polo in the Castle’ was a key event in the charity’s 10th anniversary celebrations as it looks to raise a further £7m to equip and complete the second phase of the childrens hospital in Cardiff.

Some of the UK’s top polo professionals, including former Great Britain captain Jason Dixon and Diana Abuzaid, played alongside former Miss Wales beauty and Gladiators star Amy Guy and BBC Wales newsreader Jayne James who battled it out to win the inaugural ‘Polo in the Castle’ Cup.

On raising much needed funds for the welsh charity, Victoria Ward, managing director of Fusion said: “I am delighted that we have created a partnership with the Noah’s Ark Appeal which has not only managed to raise much needed funds for the charity but has also helped raise its profile, which we hope will have a lasting effect on the future of their campaign to reach the £7m needed to complete the hospital.”

Established in 2000, The Noah’s Ark Appeal was set up to help support the Children’s Hospital for Wales. The Noah’s Ark appeal is the only charity exclusively raising money for the hospital and relies on the support and generosity of individuals, companies, and charitable trusts, across Wales.

The second and final phase of the appeal is dedicated to raising money for a number of projects including building five state-of-the-art operating theatres and updating and a critical care unit.

Added Lyn Jones, chairman of The Noah’s Ark appeal said: “We are absolutely delighted with the amount of money which has been raised from this event. The day was a fantastic success and undoubtedly the money raised will provide the children’s hospital with much needed funds as we look to complete its final phase.”

“We rely heavily on donations and without fundraising events, like this one, we would not be able to continue to support and fund the important work the hospital carries out on a day-to-day basis.“

Continued Victoria: “We are looking forward to continuing to work in partnership with the Noah’s Ark Appeal as they look to hit their financial target over the next few years. In turn this partnership will further strengthen our relationship with charity helping to raise even more money for such an important cause. We are confident that ‘Polo in the Castle’ will become an annual event for years to come with preparations are already well underway for next year’s event.”
