Businessman beats the Dragon

A Cardiff-based businessman has completed the 120km Wiggle Dragon Bike Ride in a bid to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Clive Hamilton, MD of Pinnacle Office Equipment Ltd, raised an impressive £1600, surpassing his target of £1000, for the cycle on Sunday (5th June).

Travelling over Bwlch, Rhigos and the Brecon Beacons, 4,600 cyclists navigated the 3000m climb before being met by friends at the finishing line in Pencoed.

Clive commented, “Completing the Dragon Ride is a terrific personal achievement, following months of committed training, but more importantly it is a great opportunity to raise much-needed funds for a charity close to my heart.”

“The dragon bike ride is renowned for its testing uphill battles and I definitely felt the strain at times, but there was a positive atmosphere as we took in the beautiful hills and valleys of South Wales and the worthy cause spurs you on.”

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped raise substantial funds, particularly the employees at Pinnacle Group who rallied around and alone donated £450.”

Proceeds from the Dragon Ride are being given to The Prostate Cancer Charity, founded in 1996 in response to the urgent need to invest more in prostate cancer research, to raise public and political awareness of a long-neglected disease, and most importantly to improve care and welfare for those affected by prostate cancer.

This is the eighth year of the Dragon Ride which continues to reaffirm its status as a premier UK sport event; in 2006 it became the first UK sportive to get a place on the UCI Cycling for all calendar and in 2012 will also be instated as the UK round of the UCI Golden Bike World Series, along with six other events around the world.
