Barry based firm completes new surgery

A Welsh interiors business has completed work on the new medical centre and pharmacy which has recently been built on the Barry waterfront

COS Interiors which is part of the wider COS Group was awarded the contract by the West Quay Medical Centre to fit out the 2,100sqm medical centre with furnishings after a competitive tender against a number of design interior companies.

The practice, which has previously operated from three converted shops in Barry has been seeking new premises for more than five years.

The COS project included the furnishing of the centre’s 10 GP rooms, reception and waiting area, treatment rooms, medical records storage in addition to furnishing the staff room which has individual staff lockers installed.

The new £5m medical centre is part of the Innovation Quarter on the Barry Waterfront, which is being developed as a 19-acre education, business, community and tourist complex.

Colin Blackwell, West Quay Medical Centre manager said: “Having been working towards this new centre for the last five years, these larger premises will allow us to continue to offer a high quality service to our patients and provide wider access to health care for even more members of the local community.”

Headed up by COS Project Manager Matthew James, COS interiors started work on the surgery after the building work was completed at the end of October.

On completing the contract, Director of COS Interiors Alan Davies commented: “We worked closely with Keith and the rest of the surgery partners to create a state of the art surgery and we are thrilled to be part of a project which will benefit the people of Barry and the wider local community.

Added Colin: “We are delighted to have worked on this project with another Barry-based company as we look to regenerate the town. Undoubtedly, the new Innovation quarter will be essential in helping to keep employment opportunities in the local area high and the local economy thriving.”
