New contracts fuel growth for renewable energy specialist

Natural Power Wales, part of the COS Group, has secured work in Wales, including a contract with Ceridigion County Council to supply 30m² of solar panels to heat water in the new council offices in Aberystwyth, and several contracts in England on the back of the company’s recent BRE (Building Research Establishment) accreditation.

Contracts in England include supplying solar panels to Stourport Sport’s Pavilion, Lytham St Anne’s new medical centre, 19 commercial units in Isleworth, London ,100 flats at St George’s Wharf and a low cost housing scheme in Plaistow, London.

Natural Power Wales’ growth is spiralling on the back of the Government’s agenda to reduce CO2 emissions by 60 per cent by 2050 with particular targets set for 10 per cent of the UK’s energy to come from renewable energy sources by 2010 and 20 per cent by 2020.

The new contracts will mean over 695 square meters of solar panels being installed which will avoid approximately 56 tons of CO2 emissions per year and approximately 26,000m³ of natural gas savings per year.

Lloyd Reed, technical director of Natural Power Wales, says: “More and more companies are showing a commitment to tackling climate change and this means that our business is going from strength to strength. Since the beginning of the year we have been inundated with new contracts which has meant that we have had to take on an additional installation team to meet this growing demand.

“By fitting solar panels and ground source heat pumps, not only can organisations save money on fuel bills but they can help the environment at the same time.

“There is also funding available to install these technologies in a range of buildings such as schools, businesses and public buildings which means that more and more people are taking advantage of these methods.”

Natural Power Wales was set up last year to help businesses meet their requirements in tackling the issue of going green by designing and installing renewable energy solutions, including solar thermal systems, rainwater harvesting, underfloor heating, ground source pumps, and air to water heat pumps.

Since then, the company has helped organisations such as Nantgarw Arts Centre and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Newport to cut their carbon dioxide emissions while producing considerable amounts of energy.
